Rounding up a season filled with magic, myth and whimsy, Texas Ballet Theater proudly presents the Bard's supernatural comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream in ballet form. Choreographed by celebrated British choreographer and Ben Stevenson, the production is set to Mendelssohn's soaring score, evoking a world populated by mischievous sprites, hapless thespians, yearning lovers, quarrelling fairies and an otherworldly forest, a character in itself.
A complex web of mistaken identity, spells, jealousy and duty emerges from the very beginning of the story. Demetrius and Lysander both want Hermia, but she only loves Lysander. Unfortunately Hermia's father wants her to marry Demetrius. Her friend Helena loves Demetrius, but her love is not returned. Hermia and Lysander flee to the forest where they become entangled in a spat between the king and queen of the fairies over a servant boy, and matters are made ever more elaborate with the addition of a group of labourers who are rehearsing a festival play in the forrest...
