A new musical
A love letter to the redemptive power of theatre, A Man of No Importance follows the challenges, both professional and personal, of bus driver Alfie Byrne as he attempts to stage an ill-judged production of Salome at his church in 1960s Ireland. Quite apart from its salacious content, there is already an outcry at its author - one Mr. Oscar Wilde. As Alfie grapples with bigotry at his choice, it leads him to examine his own relationships and the truth of his long-lived bachelorhood.
Based on the 1994 film of the same name, A Man of No Importance is written by Terrance Mcnally, with music and lyrics by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. It debuted in 2002 and was most recently seen Off-Broadway in 2022 with Jim Parsons in the lead role.
